Natural Stone Restoration Process
1. Pre-Inspection, Demonstration and Quotation
We visit your home or business to thoroughly pre-inspect your natural stone or hard flooring, carry out a demonstration to let you see the likely results and then provide you with a written, binding quotation for the best care plan to meet your specific needs.
2. Area Preparation
Because your home is important to you it is important to us. We’ll take the necessary precautions, protecting all areas surrounding your floor including adjoining carpets.
3. Cleaning/Restoration
Having determined the best floor cleaning or restoration process at stage 1, we now methodically follow through using the most scientifically advanced cleaning products. When complete, your floor will be rinsed and the floor thoroughly dried.
4. Diamond Grinding
Polished stone that has become etched or seriously scratched (deep enough to feel with your thumbnail) can be restored by use of mechanical abrasives, (coarse diamond pads). Combined with a heavy duty rotary machine, this is a wet process so there is no dust. The slurry created is collected efficiently with a wet vacuum cleaner. The following two surfacing procedures determine the desired surface sheen.
5. Honing
Your stone is ground with progressively finer grades of diamond abrasives and water to achieve either a flat, matt finish or a light surface sheen.
6. Polishing
Stone is mechanically finished to produce a high gloss shine. This is completed with very fine pads and sometimes with a polishing powder. Light scratches, (you can’t feel with your thumbnail) and light etch marks will be removed with this process.
7. Sealing
This is the final step in the stone restoration or cleaning process. Most stone floors are sealed with an impregnating seal which soaks into the stone filling the pores and capillaries. Generally, the more highly polished a stone is, the less seal it requires, as the polishing process closes up the natural pores.
8. Post Inspection
We will ask you to inspect the floor and give your approval once we have finished. We’ll also give you guidance on care and maintenance tips to help you keep your floor in tip top condition.
